Vistara Airlines said it will operate the last flight under its brand on November 11 and the full-service carrier's operations will be unified with Air India from November 12. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) occur when bacteria enter the urethra and make their way into the urinary tract, leading to an infection. This can happen due to various reasons, including sexual activity, genetic factors, or poor hygiene practices, such as not wiping properly after using the bathroom.
UTIs are the most common infections treated outside of hospitals in the United States. In fact, they affect about 50-60% of women at some point in their lives. Moreover, about one in four women will experience repeated infections within six months of the first one.
While anyone can get a UTI, women are about 30 times more likely to develop them than men. This is mainly because women have shorter urethras, which are located closer to the anus—a common source of bacteria. The groups most at risk for UTIs include sexually active women, older women, and both men and women with weakened immune systems. Additionally, certain lifestyle factors, such as using spermicides, having a new sexual partner, or not urinating after sexual activity, can increase the risk of developing a UTI.
Most UTIs are not considered dangerous when they are limited to the bladder. They often resolve on their own, but doctors usually prescribe antibiotics to help speed up recovery, reducing the duration from weeks to just a few days. However, if a UTI spreads beyond the bladder to the kidneys, bloodstream, or other parts of the reproductive system, it can lead to severe complications. These may include blood poisoning (sepsis), kidney damage, or even kidney failure.
If left untreated, a very small percentage of UTIs can become life-threatening. Dr. Jacob Lazarus, an infectious disease physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and a bacterial cell biologist at Harvard Medical School, warns that these severe cases can pose a significant risk to health, underscoring the importance of seeking medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen.

South Korean singer Taeil has officially left the K-pop group NCT after being accused of an undisclosed sexual crime, according to a statement released by his label, SM Entertainment, on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old's agency announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Taeil, whose full name is Moon Tae-il, would be stepping down from NCT following news that he is "involved in a criminal investigation related to a sexual offense." While the label did not provide details about the alleged crime, it emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that Taeil could no longer "continue his activities with the group."
Taeil has not made any public statements regarding the accusations. SM Entertainment also noted that he is cooperating fully with the police investigation.
"We will share further updates as the investigation unfolds," the agency said in its statement, which was originally posted in Korean and later translated by the Associated Press.
The Bangbae Police Station in Seoul has confirmed that they are investigating Taeil in connection with a sexual crime, according to reports in South Korean media. The BBC was unable to reach the police for further comments.
Taeil was a member of NCT, or Neo Culture Technology, a widely popular South Korean boy band that debuted in 2016. The group, known for its innovative music, includes over two dozen members who perform in various subunits, such as NCT 127, NCT Dream, and NCT U. Taeil was most recently active in NCT 127.
Last year, on August 15, Taeil was involved in a motorcycle accident in downtown Seoul. He temporarily halted his activities to focus on his recovery.
NCT has gained international recognition for its genre-blending music, with some of their releases charting on Billboard. A town in Massachusetts has taken the precaution of closing its parks and recreational areas at night due to an increased threat from a potentially deadly mosquito-borne virus, according to local officials.
The town of Plymouth, situated roughly 40 miles southeast of Boston, announced these closures on Friday as the risk from the rare but dangerous Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus escalated. This decision was made following a rise in the town's EEE risk level to high, after a recent infection was confirmed in a horse, officials explained in a press release.
EEE is transmitted to humans via mosquito bites and carries a fatality rate of between 33% and 70%. Most deaths occur within two to ten days after symptoms begin, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
"The recent diagnosis of EEE in a horse in Plymouth has elevated the town's risk level to high," the town said in the statement.
On August 16, the state confirmed its first human case of EEE for the year, and the first since 2020. The individual, an 80-year-old man from Worcester County, contracted the virus, prompting health authorities to increase the risk level in nearby areas, according to a release from the state's public health department.
"EEE is a rare but serious disease that poses a significant public health concern," said Massachusetts Public Health Commissioner Robbie Goldstein in the release. "We urge residents to take precautions against mosquito bites, especially in areas where EEE activity has been detected."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that approximately 30% of people who contract EEE die, and many survivors are left with long-term neurological issues. Despite its severity, EEE remains extremely rare, with an average of only 11 human cases reported annually in the United States.
During an outbreak in Massachusetts in 2019 and 2020, the state recorded 17 human cases of EEE, resulting in seven deaths.
Public health authorities, alongside the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, announced on Saturday plans to conduct aerial mosquito spraying in Plymouth County and truck-mounted spraying in parts of Worcester County.
As of Saturday, the EEE risk level was deemed high or critical for ten communities across Massachusetts.
Additionally, at least eight municipalities in the state, including Boston, have been categorized as high-risk for mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus, according to the state health department's Friday update.

The rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata triggered a rift within the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the handling of the issue and the ensuing protests across West Bengal and the country. "There are differences within the party on how the incident should have been tackled. Some feel the state's response has been slow, allowing the protests to escalate.
